Brookline Office Of Diversity, Inclusion And Community Relations Invites Community To Event Honoring MLK
Foundation: Brookline Community Foundation
The town of Brookline, Mass., is honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
Day with a free event that's being described as a "moving celebration of the life and values of Dr. King."
The event is called "Conflicting Voices of Liberty and Slavery," and it's being hosted by the town's Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Relations, the Boston Globe reports.
Pulitzer-prize-winning historian Edward J. Larson will speak on the subject of slavery and the American revolution, as well as read poems and perform black gospel music.
"What was written in 1765 through 1795 became the paradox between American ideals and American realities that Dr.
King and all of us struggle with to this day," the event's website states.
